How the process works

1. Initial assessment We review your nationality, current immigration status, reason for moving to or remaining in Spain and other relevant circumstances. 2. Residence route We identify the residence category that may be appropriate for your situation and explain the applicable requirements. 3. Document preparation We provide a checklist and assist with preparing the documents required for the relevant procedure. 4. Translation and legalization review Where foreign documents require translation, legalization or an apostille, we identify these requirements before submission. 5. Application preparation We help organize the application and supporting documentation according to the applicable procedure. 6. Submission and follow-up Depending on the residence category, the application may be submitted in Spain, through the relevant immigration authority, or through a Spanish consular office abroad. 7. Residence documentation Following approval, additional formalities may apply, including entry into Spain, registration or obtaining the corresponding Foreigner Identity Card (TIE), depending on the type of authorisation.

Important information

Spain does not have one single temporary residence procedure applicable to every foreign national. The requirements and application process depend on the applicant's nationality, immigration status, reason for residence and the type of authorization requested. Some applications must be initiated from outside Spain, while other residence procedures may be available to eligible applicants already in Spain. Foreign documents may need to be translated into Spanish and, where applicable, legalized or apostilled. EU/EEA and Swiss citizens are generally subject to a different residence regime from non-EU nationals. EU/EEA/Swiss citizens staying in Spain for more than three months may be required to register under the applicable EU residence rules rather than apply for the same residence authorization used by non-EU nationals.
